Join the Saint Louis University Department of Psychology for the next installment of its centennial webinar series celebrating 100 years of excellence in psychology education, research and clinical practice. In this webinar, "Childhood Adversity: Developmental Trajectories from Early Toxic Stress to Negative Health Outcomes," Dr. Terri L. Weaver will provide an overview of research examining the impact of early childhood adversity on adult physical and mental health outcomes. The presentation will explore findings from the landmark ACEs study and highlight three decades of subsequent research connecting toxic stress to acute and chronic health outcomes, as well as future directions, including the need to study protective childhood experiences (PCEs).
Dr. Terri L. Weaver is a professor of clinical psychology at Saint Louis University. Dr. Weaver's research lens is trauma-informed, and she is particularly interested in studying outcomes of posttraumatic stress disorder, body image disturbance, depression and substance use disorders. She has also translated her research and clinical work to serve the trier of fact as an expert witness in civil and criminal cases, often involving individuals who have harmed or killed their romantic partner in the context of intimate partner violence. Her work is informed by cross-cutting theories and integrates areas of clinical, developmental, health, and medical psychology.
